Dave Alter is a Founder and Partner of AV Capital, where he serves on the board of directors of American Insulated Glass and Kovach Building Enclosures. Prior to founding AV Capital, Dave was a Principal at Austin Ventures where he spent more than 8 years sourcing, executing, and managing middle market investments across a number of industries. He currently serves on the board of directors of SAM, and he formerly served as either a board member or a board observer of BenefitMall, Emerus (acquired by Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe), Magnablend (acquired by Univar), ENTACT Environmental Services (acquired by the Pritzker Group), Delta Rigging & Tools (acquired by Bishop Lifting), and Asset International (acquired by Genstar Capital). Previously, Dave was an investment banker at Greenhill & Co. and started his career at UBS Investment Bank.
Dave received an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and holds a BBA with high honors from the Business Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Dave is Co-founder and a board member of Hand to Hold, which provides navigation resources and support programs to families with a child in the NICU. Dave previously served as a member of the Livestrong Foundation’s Young Leaders Cancer Council. He is also the founder and a former board member of the Texas Lacrosse Alumni Association.
Dave was born in Connecticut, but moved to Dallas, Texas in high school where he met his wife, Allie. Dave and Allie were married in 2005, have three children, and reside in Austin, Texas, where they are active members of Austin Ridge Bible Church. While most of his spare time is spent keeping up with his young family, Dave enjoys golfing, running marathons, smoking barbecue, listening to live music, and cheering on his Texas Longhorns.
